Missouri Botanical Garden
+ Project Information- Project InformationThe Missouri Botanical Garden, founded in 1859, is one of the oldest botanical institutions in the United States and a National Historic Landmark. Its herbarium, with more than 6.6 million specimens, is the second largest in North America.
In 2019 the Stephen & Peter Sachs Museum at the Missouri Botanical Gardens reopened after an extensive renovation and addition which saw an expansion of the galleries and the restoration of a number of key murals on the main gallery's ceiling. A historic building with vaulted ceilings and victorian specimen cabinets, the museum's role in the Garden is to contextualize the living collection and herbarium within a conversation about contemporary culture and art.
Initially, Museum Curator Nezka Pheifer approached Michael Powell hoping to include a number of his paper specimens and pulp paintings in the inaugural exhibition. After a series of fruitful discussions, Studiopowell was brought in to design the accompanying exhibition catalog. Since that time, Studiopowell has continued to design the museum's exhibition publications, selections from which are reproduced here.
Each catalog has been printed in partnership with Advertisers Printing, one of only 50 U.S. printing companies to have earned SGP (Sustainability Green Partner) Certification, the industry standard for sustainability performance.
